DC Jammu reviews cooperatives, blocks development initiatives

JAMMU, July 22: Deputy Commissioner, Sachin Kumar Vaishya chaired a review meeting on the development of cooperative societies in Jammu district, focussing on the operational status and performance of cooperative societies.
Deputy Registrar Cooperatives, Jammu, provided a presentation detailing the current state of cooperatives. The DC inquired about the number of functional and non-functional cooperatives and emphasised the necessity of auditing these societies to ensure transparency.
Highlighting the importance of eco-fertilisers, he stressed promoting sustainable practices within the fertiliser production sector and expanding Jan Aushadhi Kendras for affordable medicines.
The discussion also touched upon creating and sustaining Farmer Producer Organisations with the DC urging efforts towards building profitable and sustainable cooperative ventures.
In a subsequent meeting addressing rural development, Sachin Kumar, alongside Block Development Officers, reviewed progress across various blocks. Assistant Commissioner Panchayat Shahzada Noor-ul-Ain presented a detailed report. The DC called for innovative ideas from BDOs, particularly in areas such as block development, water conservation, rainwater harvesting and eco-tourism.
The meeting also prioritised plastic waste management and establishing Community Sanitary Complexes.
Other attendees included Assistant Commissioner Revenue Dr. Rajesh Kumar, Assistant Commissioner Development (ACD) Dr. Vikas Sharma, Chief Planning Officer Uttam Singh, Chief Agriculture Officer Vinod Kundal and DHO Dr Samina Nazir besides other concerned officers.
