GURDASPUR, July 23 : The Punjab Governor and Administrator, UT, Chandigarh, Banwari Lal Purohit on Tuesday laid the foundation stone of the “Sant Namdev Ji Yatri Niwas” dedicated to the memory of Shiromani Bhagat Namdev Ji at his place of penance in Ghoman village in Gurdaspur district.
The Governor gave a grant of Rs 1 crore from his discretionary fund for construction of the building which will have 10 rooms, 1 hall and 1 kitchen. The purpose of the building is to facilitate the devotees visiting this holy place from all over the country.
It is worth mentioning that Bhagat Namdev Ji travelled to various parts of the country starting from Maharashtra and ended up in Punjab where he sojourned in Ghoman village and nearby Bhattiwal village. Bhagat Namdev Ji spent 18 years of his life in Ghoman and in 1350 he attained enlightenment.
Bhagat Namdev Ji’s sepulchre is in the village Ghoman itself where devotees from all over the world visit to pay obeisance. (UNI)
