AMM not to contest Parliament elections

SRINAGAR, Apr 2: Awami Mutahida Mahaz (AMM) today said that it would not contest the forthcoming Parliament elections because of the varied aspects and the modest resources at its disposal.
AMM leaders in a statement criticized Bharatiya Janta Party (BJP) for having no different and distinct policies for 16th Lok Sabha elections, which could help the country to come out of the present quagmire.
AMM leaders, including CPI (M) leaders Mohammad Yousuf Tarigami, PDP leader Hakeem Mohammad Yaseen, Sheikh Abdul Rehman, Abdul Rashid Kabli, Abdul Rehman Tukroo and I D Khajuria, held a meeting today.
“The BJP claims to be an alternative at the national level to form the Government because of the mis-governance, corruption and over all failure of the United Progressive Alliance (UPA)”, says the statement.
“But the fact remains that BJP is regressive, communal and divisive in its outlook and projects policies which are bound to undermine the age-old plural ethos and secular traditions of people,” the statement said.
“The people of the country must rise to the occasion and defeat the designs of this rabid communal platform.”
