Red Cross imparts first aid training to journalists

JAMMU, Apr 2: To enhance people’s participation in its activities, Indian Red Cross Society, J&K State Branch today imparted first aid training to the media fraternity. Participating in a First Aid Programme, media members who at times are the first responders in any traumatic incident or disaster, felt that this programme will enhance capacity to handle emergency situation and enable journalists to stay safe while working.
This Training Programme to the media persons is part of the initiatives being taken to bring greater participation of the citizenry and the civil society to achieve the objectives of Red Cross in the State.
IRCS is a Citizen Centric organization working in the State since 1948, delivering humanitarian assistance in the most difficult terrains of the State in collaboration with the individual volunteers, national and international organizations. Upholding the seven fundamental principles of the Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement, the J&K State Branch of IRCS works under the Presidentship of N N Vohra, Governor of the State.
Speaking on the occasion, Roma Wani, General Secretary, IRCS-J&K, accompanied by the Secretary Press Club, Sohail Kazmi, highlighted the initiatives and programs of Red Cross and laid emphasis on disaster management strategies. She further expressed “Red Cross aims to enable local journalists and media persons to better protect themselves.”
S C Bali began the training by a brief introduction to Red Cross history and disseminated the information regarding the basics of First Aid. Master Trainer M. Ashraf, demonstrated other techniques of First Aid including the Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) and stressed the importance of approach to the injured – whether conscious or unconscious.
Later, Ms. Wani inaugurated the newly installed first aid Point at the main gate of Press Club Jammu.
