Militant killed, NCO succumbs in Kupwara encounter

SRINAGAR, July 24: One militant was killed and a Non-Commissioned Officer (NCO) who was injured in an overnight gunfight in Trimukha Top, Lolab area of North Kashmir’s Kupwara district succumbed today.

The Chinar Corps of army posted on X: “Based on specific input regarding presence of terrorists in general area Kowut, Kupwara, a joint search operation was launched by Indian Army & Jammu Kashmir.”

On 24th July, suspicious movement was observed and challenged by vigilant troops, in response to which militants opened indiscriminate fire. In the ensuing fire fight, one militant was eliminated and an NCO was injured. The NCO was shifted to hospital where he succumbed.
The gunfight resumed this morning after operation was suspended last night.
Reinforcements were rushed to the area as the security forces suspect that there were 2-3 militants hiding in the area.
Meanwhile, Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha laid wreath and paid homage to Naik Dilwar Khan, who laid down his life during anti-terror operation in Kupwara.
“I salute the indomitable courage of our braveheart, who made supreme sacrifice for the nation. His valour and sacrifice will never be forgotten. The entire nation stands firmly with the family of the martyr in this hour of grief,” the Lt Governor said.
