JAMMU, Apr 2: Continuing drive against the offenders and violators of Model Code of Conduct, Assistant Returning Officer (ARO) Gandhi Nagar, Rajesh Kumar Shavan today seized Rs 8 lakh cash from a vehicle at Kunjwani Chowk.
An official spokesman said that during a naka laid by Flying Magistrate, Dr Ravi Bharti and SHO Police Station Gangyal Inspector Jasbir Singh a vehicle bearing registration number HR51-5257 was signaled and stopped near main Kunjwani Chowk. From the vehicle, the naka party recovered Rs 8 lakh cash.
On questioning, the driver of the vehicle S K Zutshi, Cashier of Peaks Auto Ltd intimated that he was carrying the cash to deposit it in the bank. However, the ARO informed the District Election Officer, A K Sahu and Income Tax Department as carrying such a huge cash was violation of Model Code of Conduct.
On getting information, Income Tax Officers rushed to the spot to take cognizance of the matter and scrutinize it as per rules.
Meanwhile, election related material of BJP and Jammu and Kashmir Democratic Front was seized as the same was not having the name of publisher and printers as required under Rules. Around 100 posters/flags/caps of BJP and almost same number of posters of JKDF were seized on the spot and the matter referred to the Returning Officer for further action.
