JAMMU, Apr 3: The Departmental Research Committee (DRC) meeting of the Department  for Strategic and Regional Studies (DSRS) in Jammu University was declared null and void  by the Vice-Chancellor Prof M P S Ishar following  strong objection raised by Students Scholars Joint Action Committee (SSJAC).
The SSJAC alleged utter violation of the University statutes and laid down norms in convening the DRC meeting.
The SSJAC members complained to the Vice-Chancellor that  DSRS was conducting DRC meeting without taking  Dean Research Studies (DRS), Jammu University, Professor Posh Charak as well as two other members in confidence.
“As per University Statutes, the DRC meeting should be chaired by the Dean Research Studies but she  along with Dean Social Studies Prof Jigar Mohd, who is an important members of  DRC, were  not even informed about today’s meeting, which was conducted in a hush-hush manner to deprive genuine scholars of their right,” the SSJAC chairman  Varinder Singh Chib told the Vice-Chancellor.
Alleging that the DSRS Director Baljeet Singh was creating unnecessary controversies by adopting anti-scholar policies to spoil their future, the SSJAC also appealed the vice-Chancellor to immediately remove  the former from the post of Director to ensure fairness and transparency in the system.
After giving a patient hearing to the SSJAC delegation, the VC ordered that the DRC meeting be declared null and void.
The SSJAC delegation, which met the Vice Chancellor, comprised of Ajay Prasher, Nishi Slathia, Varinder Kour, Payal, Saroj, Pardhuman and others.
When contacted, Director DSRS Baljeet Singh said that no decisionwas taken in the DRC meeting. However he refused to divulge reason for the same.
