Srinagar, July 27: The Congress today held a protest demonstration in Ganderbal against what it termed as the Government’s “anti-people” policies, including the recent order of stripping powers from the Assembly.
The protest was led by the senior Congress leader and president of the District Congress Committee, Ganderbal, Saahil Farooq. The party also sought the restoration of statehood to J&K.
Scores of Congress leaders and workers joined the protest rally from Tawheed Chowk Duderhama to Beehama Chowk, castigating the Government for its wrong policies.
Speaking to media persons, the President of the District Congress Committee, Ganderbal, said that the party will continue to fight the anti-people policies of the BJP Government, stating that the welfare schemes and policies in the country are “not pivoted to the poor.”
“An egalitarian society can be created only if the schemes and policies are oriented towards the poor,” he said.
He emphasized that the Congress will continue to combat the anti-people policies of the Centre and the LG’s Administration in J&K, while also addressing the challenges faced on various fronts.
Saahil further mentioned that bureaucratic rule has never been an alternative to a democratically elected Government, as “people suffer due to the stripping of powers from the assembly, enormous power bills, curbs on laborers extracting minerals from local nallas and rivers, and water crises that have affected every corner of the valley, particularly Ganderbal.”
He said that the people of J&K are eagerly waiting for Assembly elections “to teach the BJP a lesson.” He assured that Congress will serve the people with dedication and without self-interest.
The president of the District Congress Committee, Ganderbal, expressed confidence that Congress will emerge victorious in J&K as “people are fed up with the anti-people, anti-poor, anti-trader, anti-employee, and anti-farmer policies of BJP.”
