“Artisans in different parts of the country are engaged in making handloom popular. Be it the Kani shawls of Jammu and Kashmir, Sambalpuri saree of Odisha, Maheshwari saree of MP, Paithani of Maharashtra or hand block prints of Vidarba, Bhutiko shawls and woollen clothes of Himachal Pradesh, the work of handloom artisans is spread across every corner of the country,” Modi said in his address.
He said in few days from now i.e. on August 7, the country will celebrate National Handloom Day. Nowadays, the way handloom products have made their place in the hearts of people is really very successful and tremendous. Many private companies are also promoting handloom products and fashion through Artificial Intelligence.
Kani shawl in Kashmir originates from Kanihama area of the Kashmir valley and is one of the oldest handicraft of Kashmir. The shawls are woven from pashmina yarn.
Instead of a shuttle used in regular pashmina shawls, Kani Shawls use needles made from cane or wood.
The Prime Minister also referred to ‘Har Ghar Tiranga Abhiyan’ on the occasion of the Independence Day on August 15.
“For the last few years, everyone’s fervour for `Har Ghar Tiranga Abhiyan’ remains high in the entire country. Be it the poor…the rich…small or big households, everyone feels proud waving the tricolor,” he said.
Asserting that there is a craze of taking selfies with the tricolor and posting them on social media, Modi said you must have noticed that when the tricolor flutters atop each house of the colony or society, within no time the tricolor starts appearing on other houses as well.
“The ‘Har Ghar Tiranga Abhiyan’ has become a unique festival in upholding the glory of the tricolor. Now, various kinds of innovations related to that are also taking place. As the 15th of August approaches, various kinds of products are seen for displaying the tricolor in homes, offices and cars. Some people even distribute the tricolor to their friends and neighbours. This joy and enthusiasm with the tricolor connects us with each other,” the Prime Minister said.
He called upon the people to upload their selfies with tricolour on harghartirange.com this year too like previous years.
Modi raised concerns over the drugs menace and urged people and institutions to engage in making India ‘drugs-free’.
“Every family is worried that their child might get caught in the grip of drugs. Now to help such people, the government has opened a special centre, named – ‘Manas’. This is a very big step in the fight against drug abuse,” he said.
Recently the Government had launched a toll-free helpline number 1933 so that anyone can call on this number to get necessary advice or information related to rehabilitation.
“I urge all people, all the families, all the institutions engaged in making India ‘drugs free’ to make full use of the Manas Helpline,” he added.
PTI adds:- Highlighting that 70 per cent of the tiger population in the world is in India, he said this will make people proud.
In this context, Modi praised the “tiger mitras” who are trained to ensure that there is no human-tiger conflict in the territories inhabited by the majestic beasts.
Friends, along with the increase in tiger population, forest area in our country is also increasing rapidly. In that too, great success is being achieved through community efforts, he said.
“Tadoba-Andhari Tiger Reserve ofMaharashtra is one of the main habitats of tigers. The local communities here, especially our brothers and sisters of the Gond and Mana tribes, have taken rapid strides towards eco-tourism. They have reduced their dependence on the forest so that the activities of tigers can increase here,” the Prime Minister said.
