UDHAMPUR, July 29: In view of the worst condition of Ramnagar- Majori- Basantgarh road, the people of this hilly belt are facing a lot of hardships.
The locals of the area said that due to the broken road surface and deep potholes all over the road right from Ramnagar town upto Majouri and Gandh Top in Basantgarh Sub Division, the local transport operators avoid to ply their vehicles on this route. They alleged that for the last many years, no maintenance work was initiated on this road.
The Sumo and Minibus operators claim that tyres of their vehicles while operating on this road, live only half of the life due to scattered crushed stones and broken road surface through out. The villagers from Majouri and Gandh Top alleged that many time they approached the concerned public representative and R&B officials but only assurances have been received from them so far.
They sought the intervention of Deputy Commissioner Udhampur and the concerned senior PW(R&B)/ PMGSY officials to initiate repair work on this road.
Executive Engineer, PMGSY Ramnagar, Atta Mohd said that he was aware of the issue but as per the contract agreement, contractor concerned will have to perform any repair work for five or three years as per the agreement. He said the contractors will be directed to maintain the road. He claimed that meager funds are provided for the maintenance of the road which are insufficient. He said more than fifty percent of this road is maintained by R&B.
XEn R&B, Sansar Singh said that about 31 kms of this road is being upgraded. Of this about five kilometer of the road will be upgraded under City-Town Plan. He claimed that after 4-5 months, the road stretch under R&B in Ramnagar Division will be improved.
