JAMMU, July 30: A deputation of Jammu and Kashmir Teachers Association (JKTA) led by its UT president Bhupinder Singh met Administrative Secretary, School Education Alok Kumar outlining a series of important reforms aimed at enhancing the educational landscape and improving teacher welfare across the UT.
The Association highlights several key areas of concern and offered detailed suggestions for immediate and long-term improvements.
JKTA emphasized the need for a more efficient Annual Transfer Drive (ATD) meeting the pupil-teacher Ratio. The association suggested that surplus teaching staff from urban areas be reassigned to rural schools, ensuring an equitable pupil-teacher ratio and providing quality education to all students.
The Association demanded that Teachers appointed under the RET scheme should be included in ATD at least at zonal level. JKTA also called for a more inclusive and balanced rationalization process for session or permanently upto 3 years as mid session rationalisation hinders the teaching learning process.
JKTA proposed the formation of a committee comprising Zonal Education Officers (ZEOs), Cluster Heads, and Pay Centre In-charges, instead of leaving the responsibility solely with school Principals. JKTA demanded filling up vacant positions of Zonal Education Officers (ZEOs) to ensure smooth functioning across all zones.
To streamline administrative processes, the JKTA proposed simplifying the attendance system for teachers, recommending a single attendance recording system instead of the current three separate attendance. JKTA also highlighted the need for the provision of ministerial staff in High Schools (HS) and Higher Secondary Schools (HSS).
JKTA called for the promotion of indigenous mother tongues, such as Bhaderwahi, Dogri, Bhalesi, Padri, Sarazi, Pogali, Khashali, and Rudari, within the educational curriculum. The association suggests the establishment of a Centre for indigenous languages at JKSCERT and JKBOSE, along with the production of educational materials.
Others who comprised the delegation included Joginder Digra, Sadaket Malik, Sunil Salaria, Pawan Kumar Verma, Tirath Singh Balwal, Poonam Thakur, Mahroof Choudhary, Sajad Malik, Madhu Sambyal, Vipna Devi, Ghulam Mustafa and others.
