Britain, China should work together for common good: Chinese ambassador

London, July 31: Both China and Britain face important tasks in growing the economy and improving people’s lives, said Chinese Ambassador to Britain Zheng Zeguang on Tuesday, calling for more bilateral cooperation. The two countries can strengthen cooperation in such fields as financial services, renewable energy and green technology, cross-border crimes, and the governance of AI safety, the ambassador said at the China-Britain Business Reception where he met business leaders from China and Britain. “Our cooperation can help grow our respective economies, bring down the cost of living, raise productivity, and accelerate the green transition,” said Zheng. Collaboration on international issues will also help reduce misjudgment on certain issues, ease tensions, and give diplomacy a better chance, he added. “The Chinese market will always be open to British businesses,” Zheng said, welcoming more British investors, tourists, and students to China. Peter Burnett, chief executive of the China-Britain Business Council, said, “We certainly want more dialogue. I think we want to build an environment based on dialogue between the two countries, which provides certainty to business.”
