SRINAGAR, July 31: Residents of the remote Andrewan area in Central Kashmir’s Ganderbal district today raised concerns about the quality of the ongoing macadamization work on their road.
The residents allege that the process is being carried out inadequately, with essential Grade I and Grade II preparations lacking. According to locals, the road is being surfaced directly over dusty and uncleaned ground, which they claim undermines the quality and durability of the work.”Macadamization without proper groundwork is a waste of government funds and our time. The new surface is already coming apart with minimal use,” one resident said.
The community urged authorities to address these issues promptly to ensure a long-lasting and effective road surface. “The macadamization on this road has occurred after a long period, and we want it to be done properly so that it lasts longer,” another resident added.
In response, the Executive Engineer of the Roads and Buildings Department in Ganderbal, Tatheer Ahmad, said that macadamization is a technical process governed by strict quality control measures. “We have not surfaced the macadam over dirty roads but rather over a wet mix, which is not easily displaced as it comes directly from the plant and is applied over the road’s ditches. We have not compromised on quality,” he explained.
He also appealed to residents not to remove the macadam from the roads, noting that the surface may initially come loose until compaction and other processes are completed.
