Complaints of MCC violation against CM sent to CEO

JAMMU, Apr 4: The District Election Officer (DEO), Rajouri, Hemant Kumar Sharma has forwarded two complaints along with a Compact Disc (CD) of Chief Minister Omar Abdullah’s public address in Rajouri yesterday to Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) Umang Narula for examining the speech following complaints that Omar had violated the Model Code of Conduct (MCC) by announcing Scheduled Tribe (ST) status to Paharis before the Assembly elections.
Official sources said National Panthers Party (NPP) district president for Rajouri, Rajesh Sharma and People’s Democratic Party (PDP), district secretary for Rajouri today filed two separate complaints with the DEO Rajouri, who happened to be the Deputy Commissioner, alleging that Omar had violated the MCC by announcing ST status to Paharis while addressing a public meeting in Rajouri town yesterday.
Both the parties have presented CDs of the Chief Minister’s speech to the DEO, sources said.
They added that the DEO has forwarded the complaints along with the CD carrying the Chief Minister’s speech to the CEO for examining the complaints and the speech to verify whether it violated the Model Code of Conduct.
Meanwhile, Expenditure Observer of the Election Commission of India Shubashish Nath today issued notice to Congress candidate for Jammu-Poonch Lok Sabha seat, Madan Lal Sharma in connection with Rs 57,000 recovered from the Congress vehicle at Bishnah on March 30.
The notice reportedly said that the vehicle was also carrying Congress flags and banners and it has been established that it was part of the Congress candidate.
In the meantime, the Observer has included Rs 57,000 expenditure in the shadow expenditure register being maintained by the Election Commission.
The Expenditure Observer has referred to the Income Tax Department the case pertaining to seizure of Rs 8 lakh from a vehicle at Kunjwani naka a day before.
