JAMMU, July 31: Union Minister for Railways Ashwini Vaishnaw stated in Parliament that a survey for the railway line between Jammu and Poonch via Akhnoor and Rajouri was carried out, and the cost of the 223 km long project was assessed at Rs 22,771 crore.

However, the Union Minister remained silent about any plans to implement the project while responding to a question raised by Anantnag-Rajouri MP Mian Altaf about the Government’s plans to connect the twin districts by way of railway.
Vaishnaw stated, “Railway projects are sanctioned and executed Zonal Railway wise and not State/District/City wise as Railway projects may span across State boundaries.” He added, “Sanctioning of Railway projects is a continuous and dynamic process of Indian Railway.”
He further stated that five surveys with a total length of 326 kms have been taken up in J&K under the PM Gati Shakti National Master Plan for the “development of multimodal connectivity infrastructure to various Economic Zones”. These include four new railway lines and one expansion project from single track to double track.
