JAMMU, Aug 1: In a significant milestone for medical services in the region, regular elective surgeries commenced today in Bone and Joint Hospital Jammu with the inaugural of regular elective operation theatre session.
This achievement was realized under the guidance of Principal and Dean, Government Medical College (GMC) Jammu, Dr Ashutosh Gupta, Professor Sanjeev Gupta (HoD, Orthopaedics) and Professor Anita Vij (HoD, Anaesthesia).
A dedicated team from Orthopaedics Department, led by Dr Tahir Afzal (HoU) performed a series of complex elective surgeries, showcasing their expertise and commitment to patient care. The Anaesthesia team was led by Dr Ajay Gupta. The session included five major operations, marking a new era at the Hospital.
Among the notable procedures was a Total Hip Replacement surgery on a 34-year-old male patient suffering from Avascular Necrosis (AVN) of the hip joint. This operation provided the young patient with a new lease on life, promising improved mobility and quality of life.
Other surgeries performed during this session included complex shoulder surgery, Acromio-Clavicular joint repair on the shoulder using tight rope technique for acromioclavicular disruption in a 40-year-old male, Tibial osteosythesis with Inter locking inter medullary nail and fixation of the calcaneum fracture of the foot in a 45-year-old male.
The success of these operations underscores the Hospital’s capability to handle a wide range of orthopaedic conditions, offering cutting-edge treatments to the community. The inaugural session not only highlights the Hospital’s state-of-the-art facilities but also the exceptional skills of its medical teams.
It is pertinent to mention that all these surgeries are being done free of cost under Ayushman Bharat Scheme of the Government of India. These surgeries will be performed routinely in the Bone and Joint Hospital.
