JAMMU, Aug 2: As the street lights are not functional for the last 8 months in old Jammu city, the locals organised a big candle light march protest in Panjtirthi area to express their resentment against the administration.

A protester Deepak Sharma told reporters that JMC and PDD were paying no heed to the vital issues of Panjtirthi which is the oldest area of city.
It is pertinent to mention here that Purnima Sharma, senior BJP leader who remained Deputy Mayor for about four years was elected from this Ward itself.
The Government had installed street lights under Smart City Project but none returned to repair the defunct lights.
“After 8 pm, there is totally dark in the area which is a serious concern,” Nand Kishore said adding that they moved from pillar to post for these lights to be repaired but nothing fruitful emerged so far.
Former Mayor JMC, Narinder Singh Raju, who is also a resident of this locality claimed that they have been pushed back to the era of 70s.
Many senior citizens had a fall while moving through such dark streets in evening hours and there is equal possibility of miscreants taking advantage of the darkness.
