SRINAGAR, Aug 2: With the Health & Medical Education (H&ME) Department aiming to change the way post mortem and medico-legal reports are prepared, over 4,000 doctors across J&K have registered on the generic software known as the Medico Legal Examination and Postmortem Report System (MedLeaPR).
According to officials, the registration of doctors on the generic software, which has been created for the Union Territory of J&K, is ongoing. As of Friday morning, they noted, over 3,900 doctors had already registered.
Earlier, the H&ME had set July 31 as the deadline for the registration of doctors on the software. However, the Nodal Officer of the project in Kashmir Dr. Azia Manzoor Bhat, Assistant Professor in the Department of Forensic Medicine and Toxicology at GMC Anantnag, told ‘Excelsior’ that the deadline has now been extended up to August 5.
“As of now, the number of doctors who have registered on the generic software created for J&K is over 4,000, and this number will increase in the days to come. All doctors working in hospitals across the Union Territory must register,” he said, adding that the registration deadline has been extended due to various factors.
He informed that nearly 8,000 doctors across J&K will have to register on the generic software, of which more than half have already shown compliance, with the rest to be covered in the next few days.
The Nodal Officer further noted that all doctors, irrespective of their designation, have to register on the software. Later, he said, it will be decided at the respective hospital level who will be dealing with medico-legal work and who not.
“It will be a great change, making these reports digital and secure. Those who will be tasked with the medico-legal work will also be trained on handling the software accordingly,” officials said.
“The Department aims to ensure the timely implementation of the Medico Legal Examination and Postmortem Report System in J&K. For this, it is necessary that doctors register promptly to enable the adoption of the system,” they added.
