* Urges Govt to explore space around DH

JAMMU, Aug 2: The Civil Society of Rajouri and Poonch has castigated the `faulty location’ of the Govt Medical College, Rajouri and urged upon the J&K Government to explore space around District Hospital, Rajouri for the same.
In a virtual meeting of the members of Civil Society of Rajouri and Poonch held today under the chairmanship of Ch Rashid Azam Inqlabi, the speakers discussed in detail about the ways and means needed to adopted to improve the healthcare facilities in Rajouri and Poonch.
They pointed out that Medical College Rajouri is catering to the needs of twin border districts of Poonch and Rajouri. The Medical College Rajouri is also falling near the Line of Control, where thousands of Army jawan and Paramilitary forces also depends on this Medical Institution.
They putforth their views how to strengthen the Medical Institutions in Rajouri and Poonch, so that in future people of the area can get best medical facilities at doorstep without facing much difficulties. They suggested some parameters for the best practices for medical institutions/hospitals.
They suggested a patient identification system to prevent errors, use of barcode scanning, automated dispensing systems, and pharmacist review to minimize medication errors; promote hand hygiene practices among staff to reduce hospital-acquired infections; implement a surgical site verification process to prevent wrong-site surgeries; follow evidence-based guidelines to prevent central line-associated bloodstream infections; implement fall prevention strategies, such as bedside rails, non-slip socks and frequent patient rounding; use of pressure-redistributing mattresses, turn patients regularly, and assess skin integrity; develop and regularly drill emergency response plans for natural disasters, power outages, and other crises; enhance staff competency through regular trainings etc.
Civil Society pointed out that GMC Rajouri at present is established in District Hospital Rajouri and catering the needs of people of twins districts efficiently, but the building of Medical College is going to be constructed about more than 7 to 8 kilometers away from the District Hospital, having only single road connectivity, and no facilities of lodging or boarding for doctors, patients, attendant and the Medical students.
They said the JKUT administration has to give re-look for earlier plan which is finalized in haste. The Medical College Rajouri is functioning from Kehora Rajouri and the members of Civil Society are of the view that adjoining land for construction of Rajouri Mini Secretariat and land of sports stadium be transferred to Medical College Rajouri immediately, which cater the needs of GMC. The Maternity and Child care units of Medical College be shifted to the old Rajouri Hospital complex near Gujar Mandi.
Prominent among those who participated in the meeting include- Sain Abdul Rashid DDC member, Dr Mohd Younis, Prof Mohd Rashid, DDC Member Poonch Abdul Ghani, ex- BDC member Khaliq Firdous, Adv Riaz Ahmed, YNC leader Mohd Tariq, Mohinder Singh and others.
