Deputy Commissioner of Baramulla, Minga Sherpa, informed Excelsior that the locations for the new parking areas have been identified.
These measures, he said, are aimed at streamlining traffic as the town faces a “chronic parking problem”.
“Al-Huda market parking, which has been made available to the general public, will accommodate around 100 vehicles. We will create 5-6 more such parking areas within this year for better traffic management. The spaces have been identified and by the end of this year, the traffic woes should be addressed,” he said.
He also noted the ongoing efforts of the district administration to beautify the town, with a special focus on creating more urban spaces for people.
“Through the municipality and other agencies, we aim to create urban spaces for people to spend leisure time. One such project is the facelift of Kariapa Park, which is currently in a dilapidated condition,” he said.
The Deputy Commissioner added: “There are two projects: one is the Clock Tower, which has been completed with some work pending; in the second phase, we are trying to create a better seating arrangement in the park so that people can relax. The aim is to convert it into a beautiful space for people.”
The Deputy Commissioner also informed that through the MC, the administration is planning to facelift the bund along Jhelum in Azad Gunj. “The project has been approved; we will have a walkway, a cycle track, and some space for people to sit,” he said.
“The Directorate of Libraries is also creating a library complex in the town. It has been completed, and in the next few months, we will be able to dedicate this big project to the people.”
Furthermore, he said that the administration is also going to set up Nagar Van in Baramulla town and other towns of the district. “It will be a space available for people to walk and enjoy leisure time.”
Meanwhile, Tariq Ahmad Mughloo, President of the Traders Federation, we urged the authorities to establish more parking spaces, which will ease mobility and boost business.”
