KATHUA, Aug 4: I D Soni, a distinguished educationist and philanthropist, inaugurated a new Community Centre at Bhaddu today. The centre, built with a grant of Rs 25 lakh from Union Minister of State Dr. Jitendra Singh through his MPLADS fund, marks a significant development for the region, which has long awaited such a facility for social and cultural activities.
The inauguration ceremony was well-attended by notable figures from Bhaddu, including educationists, doctors, scientists, engineers, and local officials. Among them were District Development Councillors Vikram Singh and Ashok Sharma, who assured their continued support for the area’s development, including improved road connectivity and other essential facilities.
In his speech, I D Soni expressed his pleasure at the swift completion of the Community Centre and emphasized the importance of maintaining and utilizing the facility effectively. J.K. Vaid, former Director of GSI, praised Dr. Jitendra Singh for his prompt response to the community’s needs and highlighted I D Soni’s lifelong dedication to addressing local issues, even at the age of 96.
The event also saw speeches from prominent community members such as Dr. Rajindra Chopra, Bua Ditta Maski, Mahinder Vaid, and Krishan Singh Jasrotia, who thanked Dr. Jitendra Singh for fulfilling their long-standing request.
Sudesh Kumar Spolia, President of the Public Welfare Committee Bhaddu, welcomed the attendees and provided details on the construction of the Community Centre. He noted the high-quality materials used and the dedication of the engineers and contractors involved. The event was conducted by Yash Sharma, who also delivered the vote of thanks. The historic area of Bhaddu, known for its rich heritage and as the birthplace of notable poets and figures, now has a new hub for community engagement and cultural enrichment.
