CABI visits Jammu, discusses implementation of PlantwisePlus programme

JAMMU, Aug 5: To discuss and plan about the PlantwisePlus programme implementation in Jammu region during 2024 and beyond, the scientific team of CAB International (CABI) visited here today.
CABI is a United Nations level treaty level agreement scientific organization established to apply scientific knowledge and expertise to solve problems in Agriculture and Environment.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Vinod Pandit, Regional Director, South Asia, CABI emphasized that plant clinic activities need to be streamlined in the state and aim to adopt digital tools for strengthening decision making using digital decision support tools and promote scientific advisory by supporting digital advisory tools.
Dr. Manju Thakur, Crop Health Advisor highlighted the importance of plant clinic data management and streamlining the data validation process for encouraging quality advisory.
She also presented the different CABI Digital Tools the plant doctors can use for ease of accessing knowledge on finger tips.
CABI leads different projects, programmes globally and one of its flagship global programme is Plantwise Plus, currently in operation in over 27 countries.
CABI and Department of Agriculture, Jammu (DAJ) has entered into agreement in 2016 to support governments’ initiatives on capacity building of extension officials and strengthen the agro advisory system.
The approach of the programme is to train officials as Plant Doctors, who in turn will be running plant clinics.
In last few years, about 100 officials have been trained as Plant Doctors who are establishing Plant clinics across all the districts (Jammu, Kathua, Samba, Udhampur, Reasi, Rajouri) of the Jammu region.
