JAMMU, Aug 5: Displaced Persons (DPs) of 1947 from PoJK held a conference at Poonch demanding acceptance and implementation of Joint Parliamentary Committee’s Report No 183, the only viable roadmap for their settlement.
The participants also demanded the defreezing of their share of Assembly seats, regularization of evacuees residential/commercial structures allotted to DPs on rental basis and revocation of ban imposed by Govt on the registration of state land being granted proprietary rights under govt. order no 254-C of 1965.
The prominent people who spoke on the occasion are Capt. Ashok Kumar Sharma, Balwant Singh, Barkat Singh Azad, Lekh Raj (retd. Lecturer) and Dwarka Nath Raina. A large number of DPs from the adjoining areas of Poonch participated in the conference held under the banner of Jammu Kashmir Sharnarthi Action Committee (JKSAC) unit Poonch led by Tarlok Singh Tara, its president.
The speakers strongly criticized the Govt for adopting criminal silence over the acceptance and implementation of JPC report besides other issues concerning their final settlement, pending redressal since decades. The speakers also strongly criticized both the MPs for not projecting their issues before the UT as well as Central Govt. despite of being given massive mandate for the third term in the Lok Sabha.
Addressing the conference TS Tara, said that during their visit to Poonch MPs were requested many times to mount pressure on UT and Central Govt for the acceptance and implementation of JPC Report which has recommended ex-gratia relief of Rs 30 lakhs to each DP family alongwith reservation for their wards and defreezing of the Assembly seats besides other issues. the settlement of DPs and has expressed their concerns with earlier and present UT and Central Govt particularly for registration of their claim for their left-out properties in PoJK, defreezing their share of Assembly seats, reservation for their wards, regularization of the residential/commercial structures allotted to DPs on rental basis, but the same were denied till date and none of the govt. showed any interest and allowed the DPs to suffer.
The participants unanimously appealed to PM and Home Minister to take the cognizance of the DP’s issues seriously and should issue advisory to UT Govt to prepare a comprehensive roadmap as per the JPC report for the final settlement of DPs. They also appealed to Lt Governor Manoj Sinha to revoke ban imposed on registration of state land allotted to DPs of 1947 from PoJK granted proprietary rights under Govt. in 1965.
