On fifth anniversary of Ladakh becoming a Union Territory, the Central Government issued a comprehensive document mentioning development initiated in the UT.
“Ladakh is now independently paving the way for its development,” the official document stated.

It said a number of development works are being executed in Ladakh under Prime Minister’s Development Package (PMDP). Two projects have been completed and remaining six are in various stages of implementation.
“For all-round development of Ladakh, the budget allocation has been increased significantly to Rs 5958 crore in 2020-21, 2021-22, 2022-23 and 2023-24. Sindhu Infrastructure Development Corporation (SIDCO) has been set up in the UT. With an equity capital of Rs 25 crore, the Corporation will promote infrastructure and industrial development,” the document said.
It added that a Central University namely Sindhu Central University is being set up. The interim campus is under establishment within the campus of Government Degree College Khaltse. A 170-bedded hospital at Kargil has been made operational.
Srinagar-Leh 220 KV transmission line has been completed. A power transmission line with the cost of Rs 1310 crore, 220 KV intra-State transmission line i.e. Kargil-Padum (195.28 km) and Pyang-Diskit (77.60 km) have been approved. Work on Zojila tunnel on Srinagar-Leh highway is also in progress
As many as 823.42 km road has been constructed and black-topped after formation of the UT.
“Work has started on 36 helipads and two hangars, out of which work on 30 helipads and two hangars has been completed,” the document read.
The Government has purchased 156 snow clearance machines to keep Kargil-Zanskar road and Ladakh’s interior roads open during winters.
