Rather reviews functioning of Commercial Taxes Deptt

JAMMU, July 1: The Commercial Taxes Department, Jammu has recorded a significant growth rate of 25.71 percent in revenue realization for the year 2011-12 in Jammu Division.
This was stated by Minister for Finance and Planning Abdul Rahim Rather here today while chairing a high level meeting held to review the functioning and achievements of the department in Jammu Division.
Threadbare discussions were held on various vital issues like number of dealers registered, returns, assessment under VAT, extra demand under GST, Position of Assessment under GST, detail about Tax Audit, refund claimed and many other issues in the meeting.
It was informed that the department has achieved revenue of Rs 2357.80 crore during 2011-12 against Rs 1875.61 crore during 2010-11.
After taking the brief from the Commissioner, Commercial Taxes and Additional Commissioner Commercial Taxes, the Finance Minister conducted the detailed review of the functioning of various wings and circles of the department with the Deputy Commissioner and Commercial Taxes Officers.
While discussing the functioning of the checkposts, the Minister stressed upon transparent and hassle-free services to the dealers.
The Minister while reviewing the functioning of each Commercial Tax Circle, gave specific instructions to the Commercial Tax Officers for making the system more trader-friendly so far as honest dealers are concerned. He instructed that the incidence of tax evasion should be dealt strictly and firmly. He also emphasized the need of frequent inspections and efficient conduct of Tax-Audit and Audit Assessments. He assured full support to all the functionaries of the department in the issues pertaining to administration and taxation.
Stating that the Commercial Taxes Department is the backbone of the State’s economic apparatus, he called upon the functionaries of the department to put their best foot forward to maximize the tax accruals.
Principal Secretary Finance, M. I. Khandey also hailed the efforts of the Commercial Taxes Department for surpassing the targets.
Earlier, Additional Commissioner Commercial Taxes P.I Khateeb gave a detailed presentation about the performance of the Commercial Taxes Department, Jammu Division.
Among others, Commissioner Commercial Taxes, Kifayat Rizvi, Additional Commissioner Tax Planning, P.I Khateeb, Special Secretary Finance, Omkar Nath, Deputy Commissioners and CTOs of Commercial Taxes Department were present in the meeting.
