BSF DG reviews situation on Indo-Bangladesh border

KOLKATA, Aug 6: Director General of Border Security Force (BSF) Daljit Singh Chaudhary on Tuesday visited the international check post at Petrapole and border out post Ranaghat on the Indo-Bangladesh border in West Bengal, the paramilitary force said in a statement.

 

 

The BSF DG – accompanied by Additional Director General, Eastern Command  Ravi Gandhi, and Inspector General, South Bengal Frontier, Maninder P. S. Pawar – visited the area for the second straight day.

 

 

” The primary objective is to assess the tactical and operational preparedness and deployment strategies of BSF at these key locations in view of the recent developments in Bangladesh,” the statement said.

 

 

On reaching ICP Petrapole, the Director General BSF along with ADG Eastern Command visited the passenger and cargo terminals and reviewed the complex operational challenges faced by the troops. The officiating Commanding Officer of 145 Battalion briefed the DG on the operational procedures of the battalion. He also visited the new ICP building.

 

 

The DG also visited the Ranaghat Border Outpost of the 68th Battalion where he held a meeting with BSF officers to review the current situation in Bangladesh and discussed operational strategies to deal with infiltration and smuggling.

 

 

“The Director General emphasised the need to increase vigilance and take effective measures to deal with these challenges,” the BSF statement said.

 

 

 

The BSF DG also addressed the officers and jawans in Sainik Sammelan, in which the current situation in Bangladesh was discussed and clear instructions were given for preparedness to cope with any situation. He underlined the importance of border preparedness in view of challenging conditions in Bangladesh and urged the officers and jawans to remain alert.

 

 

“This visit underlines the commitment of BSF to maintain strong security measures and operational efficiency in one of the most sensitive areas of the India-Bangladesh border,” the communique said. (UNI)
