Two Narco smugglers held with 30 kg poppy straw

JAMMU, Apr 6: Police today arrested two narcotics smugglers and recovered 30 kg poppy straw from their possession in Nanak Nagar area under the jurisdiction of Gandhi Nagar police station.
Police parties arrested one of the smugglers Mohammad Arif son of Mohammad Hussain, a resident of Narbal Bala from Nanak Nagar this afternoon along with 3.5 kg poppy straw.
He was subjected to questioning during which he disclosed that his tenant Ghulam Mustafa Mir son of Ghulam Haider Mir R/o Pahalgam, presently putting up at Narbal Bala, also had another consignment of poppy straw at his house.
Police raided the house of Mir and recovered 26.5 kg poppy straw from there.
A total of 30 kg poppy straw has been recovered, police said.
They added that the accused had been engaged in the business of apricots. While transporting apricots from the Kashmir Valley to Jammu, they had also been smuggling poppy straw.
Gandhi Nagar police have arrested both the accused and registered a case against them under NDPS Act for further investigations.
Police parties headed by SHO Gandhi Nagar Inspector Arun Jamwal made the arrests and recoveries under the supervision of SP City (South) Rahul Malik and SDPO Gandhi Nagar Harjeet Singh.
