UDHAMPUR, Aug 6: Demanding Degree College at Moungri, locals and students held a massive demonstration and also submitted a memorandum to the Tehsildar Moungri in support of their demand.
The protesting villagers raised slogans in support of their demand and said that a college for Tehsil Moungri was required for implementation of Government programme ‘Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao’.
“There are five Higher Secondary Schools feeding the tehsil and Moungri is central place but only 5 to 15 percent students, especially girls pursue the higher education due to non availability of Degree College in the tehsil,” the villagers explained and added that if a college is established in Moungri, the local girls can continue their higher education.
They claimed that Principal Secretary Higher Education Department, Alok Kumar had also assured to consider their demand during his visit to Udhampur on August 2.
Later, the villagers submitted a memorandum to Tehsildar Moungri, Arushi Sabharwal urging the Government to sanction a Degree College for the area.
