Man seriously injured in bear attack

POONCH, Aug 6: An elderly villager was seriously injured when a bear attacked him in Jabri Kharappa area of Loran in Poonch district today.
Locals said that a bear with two cubs was roaming in the area along road side, this person was in the front yard of his house. The bear suddenly attacked the villager on his face and left him seriously injured. The wild beast ate his face badly. The injured was later rescued by the family members who came out with lathis.
The injured was taken to PHC Loran immediately, from where he was shifted to District Hospital Poonch. The injured was identified as Bashir Ahmed Sheikh, son of Raheem Sheikh, resident of Jabri Kharappa in Loran tehsil of Poonch.
Medical Superintendent DH Poonch Dr Nusrat Bhatti when contacted said that he was having serious facial injuries and needs an emergency advance treatment, after initial treatment here he was referred to GMC Jammu.
Meanwhile, locals expressed serious concern over the incident and alleged that Wildlife Department was not taking cognizance as the wild animals especially bears are roaming in the residential areas. They sought intervention of the Deputy Commissioner Poonch.
