SRINAGAR, Apr 6: The daughter of former National Conference MLA, Mohammad Shafi Bhat, today jumped into politics to contest the forthcoming Assembly elections from her father’s home constituency of Amira Kadal.
Dr Hina Bhat, 34, said she was not interested in politics, but National Conference’s failure to mitigate the problems of people of her father’s constituency forced her to jump into politics.
“I was not interested in politics, but NC leadership has neglected Amira Kadal constituency for last six-years and its MLA, Nasir Aslam Wani, has failed to serve those who elected him, that was why I decided to contest to help the people,” said Hina.
Hina was yet to decide whether to contest as an independent candidate or join any party. “I will contest the upcoming Assembly elections from Amira Kadal. I have not decided as to which party I will join, that will be decided by the people of Amira Kadal constituency,” she said.
Hina’s father had won the Amira Kadal seat on the National Conference ticket in 1996, but was denied ticket by the NC in the 2002 poll. He later joined the Congress and defeated the NC’s Ghulam Nabi Mir. Now, Bhat is not active in politics due to his ailing health.
