JAMMU, July 1: Seeking high level probe into multi-crore land scam and changing land status of many people by tempering revenue records, Katra land owners have sought action against some key Revenue officials, posted in Katra area of district Reasi for the last over two decades and a high level inquiry into the whole matter.
Addressing a press conference here several victims of Revenue officials demanded that Government should hold an inquiry how the status of hundreds of kanals of land of the people in and around Katra has been changed by forging documents by Patwaris, Girdawars and Naib Tehsildars etc and why senior officials including Assistant Commissioner, Revenue and Dy Commissioner Reasi remained silent despite several representations by the victims.
They said that victimised by the Revenue officials and after moving from pillar to post they have come here to expose this nexus of land-grabbers and some key Govt officials in district Reasi and seek action against them. Citing an example they said one Naib Tehsildar Sher Singh Thapa was Patwari and then became Girdawar in Katra and now he is Naib Tehsildar here again, for the last over two decades. Such people have developed nexus and raised property worth crores. The Govt should go for the assessment of their assets including bungalows, shops, hotels, vehicles in Reasi, Katra and Jammu.
Prime victims Bharat Singh and Arjun Singh disclosed that status of their nearly 120 kanal land has been changed. Railway compensation worth over Rs 60 lakh has been disbursed on the name of some other persons against the land belonging to them. They wondered how a portion of their land was allegedly shown on the name of other families. How they tempered record and changed status, only these people now. There seems to be no rule of law and people are being cheated openly and there is no fear among the officials indulging in open loot and fraud. They sought the intervention of Chief Minister and appealed him to protect their land from the Revenue officials posted in Katra area. They sought Vigilance inquiry and arrest of Revenue officials involved in fraud and attachment of their properties.
