Commemorative events for Guru Tegh Bahadur’s martyrdom to begin in Nov

JAMMU, Aug 9: Renowned film actress Priti Sapru and Nidhi Dogra Sharma (president of Dogra Samaj Trust, Mumbai), announced a series of events and programs to commemorate the 350th anniversary of Guru Tegh Bahadur’s martyrdom.
The press conference, held under the banner of Nami Dogri Sanstha (NDS), revealed that the commemorative events will commence on November 25. Priti Sapru, daughter of the illustrious film actors DK Sapru and Hemavathi, and niece of actor Jeevan, highlighted plans to establish a Gurudwara in Srinagar dedicated to Guru Ji, aimed at promoting religious unity in line with the region’s ancient traditions of harmony and brotherhood.
Additionally, she announced a series of events, including a light and sound program in Jammu and Srinagar, seminars, and a yatra from Srinagar to Delhi via Jammu and Punjab, culminating at Gurudwara Sheesh Ganj Sahib in Delhi, the site of Guru Ji’s martyrdom. Sapru, proud of her roots in J&K, expressed her desire to bring together Kashmiris, Dogras and Punjabis in this celebration, upholding the region’s longstanding traditions of unity.
Nidhi Dogra Sharma, who has united nearly 10,000 Dogra families in Maharashtra and Mumbai under the Dogra Samaj Trust, called on all Dogras to support the event with their full cooperation. She emphasized the deep historical and spiritual connection between the Dogra community and the great Sikh Gurus, and assured that a detailed program would be released soon.
The Nami Dogri Sanstha honored both Priti Sapru and Nidhi Dogra Sharma with the Sanstha Memento in recognition of their efforts. Dr Sushil Bhola, executive member of NDS and Capt Lalit Sharma (convener of NDS) pledged full support on behalf of the Sanstha for this significant event.
Prof Anupama Sharma (NDS patron) along with Seema Murti and Advocate Dogra Harish Kaila (president of NDS) also shared the dais. Prominent Dogri poet Narinder Chib, along with life members Shambu Nath Pyasa and Suresh Poonchi, were also among the attendees.
