About Free Verse Poetry, someone has well said, “Free verse is any form of poetry that does not rely on consistent patterns of rhyme and meter. In fact, free verse poetry doesn’t have to rhyme at all. As a result, free verse tends to follow the rhythm of natural speech. However, a natural rhythm may still emerge despite the lack of a specific metrical structure.”
Although, many established poets have a concern with free verse poetry but in modern times it has been accepted by and large and has emerged as a very potent form of expression. Free verse poetry is trending in all regional languages these days. As the history goes Walt Whitman is considered American farther of free verse. Our own Dogri language is also not far behind. Many Dogri poets have tried their hand in it. The fact remains that it is quite different from other form of poetry and has succeeded in inspiring the litterateurs to enrich the literature with this form of poetry also.

In his foreword, eminent Sanskrit scholar, Dogri and Hindi litterateur, Sahitya Academy awardee Prakash Premi writes that although in Hindi language the credit goes to Mahakavi Nirala for introducing free verse poetry but in Dogri it was very popular Dogri poet Charan Singh, who gave new dimensions to poetry in Dogri by introducing free verse poetry. Thereafter many poets have emerged on literary scene and enriched Dogri literature with free or blank verses.
