Enhance checkpoints during night hours: IGP

SRINAGAR, Aug 10: The Inspector General of Police (IGP) Kashmir, V.K. Birdi, today directed officers to maintain strict vigilance and enhance checkpoints during night hours.
He issued these directions during a security review meeting at the Police Control Room in Kashmir, which was convened to assess the overall security scenario and make arrangements for the upcoming Independence Day celebrations and the Tiranga Rally.
A police spokesperson said that during the meeting, the IGP Kashmir sought reports from officers regarding security arrangements and deployment plans to ensure the smooth and peaceful conduct of the events.
“The IGP discussed in detail all the necessary arrangements for the smooth conduct of these events and directed that all preparations be completed well in advance. Emerging challenges and their countermeasures were thoroughly discussed during the meeting,” the spokesperson said.
The IGP directed officers to enhance checkpoints, especially during night hours, and to keep a strict vigil on elements inimical to peace.
“He emphasized the need for extra vigilance during the forthcoming events, particularly the Independence Day celebrations. The IGP also instructed officers to ensure the implementation of joint mechanisms devised at different levels,” the spokesperson added.
The meeting was attended by senior officers, including the IG CRPF SOS, IG BSF Ftr. HQR Srinagar, IGP Traffic J&K, DD IB, DIG Armed Kashmir, all Range DIsG of Kashmir Zone, DIG IR Kashmir, DIG BSF Srinagar, DIG CRPF (North) Srinagar, DIG CRPF SKOR Awantipora, Col GS IS 15 Corps, all District SSsP of Kashmir Zone, DC SB Srinagar, SSP Traffic City Srinagar, SSP CID CIK, SSP Security Kashmir, CO KOS CRPF, SP East Srinagar, SP South City Srinagar, SP PC Srinagar, SP CID SB Kashmir, SP Telecom Kashmir, and other officers.
The IGP emphasized the need to establish 24×7 special checkpoints at vulnerable locations and at the city’s entry and exit routes.
“Officers were instructed to enhance night patrols in vulnerable areas. IGP Kashmir further stressed the importance of a fair and smooth conclusion to the events, directing officers to maintain strict vigilance and remain alert to disrupt any terror ecosystem.”
