425 criminal compoundable cases settled in Special Lok Adalat

JAMMU, Aug 10: A total of 425 criminal compoundable cases were settled amicably in Special Lok Adalat held across Jammu and Kashmir today.
This event, the eighth Special Lok Adalat of the year, was organised under the leadership of Justice Tashi Rabstan, acting Chief Justice of the High Court of Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh, and Justice Sindhu Sharma, Chairperson of the High Court Legal Services Committee.
As per an official statement, during the Lok Adalat, a total of 994 cases were reviewed, with 425 cases being settled amicably. These settlements involved an amount of Rs 3, 30, 24, 050, providing significant relief to the litigants.
Amit Kumar Gupta, Member Secretary of the J&K Legal Services Authority, noted that the next Special Lok Adalat is scheduled for August 23, 2024, focusing on Consumer Cases.
He encouraged advocates and litigants to take advantage of these Adalats, which aim to facilitate easy and prompt justice.
Separately, in Jammu District, the Lok Adalat on Criminal Compoundable Cases was chaired by Sanjay Parihar, Principal District & Sessions Judge, and supervised by Smriti Sharma, Secretary of the District Legal Services Authority (DLSA).
There, out of 718 cases addressed, 411 were resolved, with Rs 16, 52, 941 recovered.
In Samba, Adnan Sayeed, Chairman of the DLSA and Principal District & Sessions Judge, inaugurated the Lok Adalat at the ADR Centre.
One bench, led by Preet Simran K Grover, Chief Judicial Magistrate, and Himani Parihar, Munsiff, settled 7 out of 14 cases.
Additionally, a Legal Awareness program on “Revenue Laws” was held for trainee judges and legal aid counsels.
Shakeel Tehsildar Ghagwal and Naib Tehsildar Gadwall provided insights into revenue laws and land record systems.
In Kathua, under Ashok Kumar Shavan, Chairman of DLSA and Principal District & Sessions Judge, three benches handled criminal compoundable cases and traffic challans.
Of the 71 cases addressed, 65 were settled, and Rs 66, 500 was realized. The benches included Surinder Kumar Thapa and Neena Thakur, Jeevan Kumar Sharma and Shub Kumar, and Jyoti Bhagat and Poonam Gupta.
