SCERT organizes seminar on ‘Local Heroes/Heroines in Curriculum’

JAMMU, Aug 12: The State Council of Education Research and Training (SCERT) Jammu Division organized a seminar today titled “Local Heroes/Heroines in Curriculum,” aimed at integrating local historical figures into educational frameworks.
The seminar, held at the SCERT Divisional Office in Jammu, was orchestrated by the Department of Curriculum Development and Studies, Academic Unit II, under the guidance of Prof (Dr) Sindhu Kumar, Joint Director, and Prof (Dr) Parikshat Singh Manhas, Director of SCERT J&K.
The event commenced with the traditional lighting of the lamp by Dr Madhulika Singh, Faculty at the Department of History, University of Jammu.
This was followed by the National Anthem and a Mass Pledge on Nasha Mukti Abhiyan.
Roopse Kapoor, Head of the CD&S Department, welcomed the attendees, while Associate Prof (Dr) Neeraj Jandial introduced the seminar’s theme, linking theoretical aspects with practical educational policies.
Dr Madhulika Singh delivered a compelling lecture on “Local Heroes/Heroines in the Curriculum,” emphasizing the importance of including unsung heroes from the Jammu region in educational content.
She stressed the need to recognize and honor these figures in line with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 to foster a sense of pride and patriotism among students.
Prof (Dr) Sindhu Kapoor supported this view, highlighting the necessity of acknowledging local contributions to India’s freedom struggle and enriching students’ understanding of their heritage.
Neena Puri also addressed the seminar, focusing on International Youth Day with the theme “Clicks to Progress: Youth Digital Pathways for Sustainable Development.”
Dr Bheem Bakshi discussed the crucial role of teachers in bringing local heroes’ sacrifices to light.
Amit Bhagat (AO) delivered the vote of thanks, and Dr Sandarve conducted the event proceedings, with technical support provided by Deepak Kumar (AO) and Lakshmi Puri, Teacher Educator.
