JAMMU, Aug 13: The Congress Party held a strong protest demonstration against Smart Meters at Bishnah town today.
The protest was led by former National president and Member AICC, Neeraj Kundan. While addressing the media, Neeraj said that the tax terrorism in the name of electricity must be stopped. He alleged that there is no improvement in the hours of electricity cuts but bill became smarter.
Speaking to the reporters Neeraj lashed out at the BJP for harassing the poor and common people by imposing huge taxes leading to unprecedented price rise, and introduction of prepaid smart meters besides record unemployment , imposition of property tax and various other such anti people actions.
He also said that the Government departments and their officers should work for the welfare of people and not as the worker of a particular political party.
The protesters gathered at Bishnah, holding placards and raising slogans against the installation of Smart Meters, which they claim have led to exorbitant electricity bills. The residents expressed their frustration and anger, accusing the BJP Government of neglecting the common man’s plight and prioritizing profit over people’s welfare.
“The introduction of Smart Meters has been nothing short of a nightmare for the people of J&K and particularly Bishnah constituency. These devices, instead of ensuring accurate billing and reducing costs, have only escalated the financial stress on households. The BJP Government must understand that their policies are affecting the daily lives of ordinary citizens. It is unacceptable that families are forced to choose between basic necessities and paying inflated electricity bills,” he added.
Kundan highlighted the broader implications of the BJP’s policies, accusing the Government of being indifferent to the struggles of the common people. “We demand an immediate rollback on the Smart Meters project and a thorough investigation into the reasons behind the inflated bills. The Government must work towards solutions that are fair and sustainable, rather than imposing financial burdens on the people,” Neeraj asserted.
Prominent among others present on the occasion included Dwarka Choudhary, Vijay Tagotra, Kailash Saini, Sahil Sharma, Gurnam Singh, Vajinder Sing (Deepu), Jyoti Bajwa, Rahul Sharma, Ajay Kumar and others.
