JAMMU, Aug 13: A rare knee surgery was performed on a female patient in Government Medical College (GMC) Udhampur.
A 65-year-old female from Chenani, who was suffering from advanced osteoarthritis, had consulted many doctors in Government and private hospitals of Jammu and outside but no doctor agreed to take up the case.
The patient then visited GMC Udhampur where she was successfully operated for total knee replacement by the expert team of doctors comprising Dr Nikhil Gupta, Dr Vinit Gupta and Dr Sayar Ahmed.
The surgery was done totally free of cost under Ayushman Bharat scheme. Anesthesia was given by Dr Ankita Atri and OT team included Ravi Kotwal, Sandeep and Mahesh. The operating time for the surgery was approximately one hour and the patient was made to walk on the very next day of the surgery.
Such type of high end operations needs high skill and experience, an official release by the GMC Udhampur said.
