JAMMU, Apr 9: Alleging police inaction, the family members of a woman staged protest demonstration at Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) here today.
As per sources, Renu Singh, wife of Laab Singh of Pargwal allegedly consumed some poisonous substance at her residence yesterday.
She was shifted to nearby hospital and later referred to Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH), where she failed to respond to the treatment and breathed her last today.
As the news of the woman spread, her family members rushed to GMC Hospital and staged protest against police department for not taking any action against the in-laws of the woman for abetting suicide.
The protestors alleged that the in-laws of the woman were harassing the woman on petty issues and are behind the death.
“Police is not taking any action against the culprits behind the death of the woman”, they alleged.
On getting information, senior police officials rushed to the spot and pacified the agitators.
On the assurance of action against the persons behind the death of the woman, the protestors dispersed.
After completing legal formalities, the body was handed over to family members for last rites.
A case in this regard stands registered at concerned police station and investigation started.
