GMC resident docs take out candle light march

JAMMU, Aug 18: To show solidarity with a trainee doctor, who was raped and murdered recently in a Kolkata Hospital, a candle light march was taken out this evening by the resident doctors of Government Medical College (GMC) Jammu who continued their strike today also.
A large number of resident doctors assembled this evening in the College premises from where they took out a peaceful candle light march up to Maheshpura Chowk. They demanded justice for the victim doctor and stringent punishment for the accused.
The protesting doctors also demanded the Government authorities and medical bodies to urgently address the safety concerns and implement robust measures to safeguard healthcare professionals in the Hospital premises.
Speaking to the media on the occasion, RDA president of GMC Jammu, Dr Sandeep Singh said, that the tragic incident in Kolkata Hospital has left a deep scar on both the community and the broader medical profession. He stressed that it is imperative that the perpetrators of such heinous crimes are held accountable.
He also urged the LG Manoj Sinha to implement ‘Central Protection Act’ in J&K to safeguard our medical fraternity from such gruesome acts.
