JKNUF to field candidate from Habba Kadal

JAMMU, Aug 19: Jammu Kashmir National United Front (JKNUF) a political party floated by Kashmiri Pandits way back in 2002 has decided to field its candidate from Habba Kadal Assembly segment in Srinagar district in the ensuing Assembly elections.
Rakesh Handoo spokesperson of the party today announced that he will file papers from Habba Kadal constituency. Handoo has earlier also contested Assembly elections from the Valley and he had filed his nomination papers from Lok Sabha constituency of Srinagar this year but his form was later rejected while scrutiny.
Handoo said that his candidacy this time is not a personal political endeavour but a collective stand on behalf of the Kashmiri Pandit community which has been subjected to neglect and marginalization over the decades.
Meanwhile, Ashok Kumar Pandit ex Naib Sarpanch Dooru and a social activist has also decided to contest from Habba Kadal as an independent. He said the decision of Election Commission to hold Assembly poll in the UT has come as a relief to the people who were facing many hardships in absence of a democratic Government in the UT after Assembly was dissolved in 2018.
