The protestors, raising slogans against the police administration and specifically the staff at Police Station Arnia, demanded immediate action against the accused youth.
The incident in question occurred on the night between Monday and Tuesday when a four-wheeler allegedly driven by one Shubham Choudhary, son of Ajit Ram of Sake Chak, Ramgarh, struck three individuals riding a motorcycle.
The collision resulted in the death of one Kamal Singh, son of Rounak Singh of Nandpur, and injuries to one Rekha Singh, daughter of Subash Chander of Nandpur, and Aditya, son of Sanyasi Ram of Kotla.
The protestors claimed that despite three days having passed since the accident, the police have not arrested the accused, who is at large.
They alleged that Choudhary’s father, a Police Sub-Inspector posted in Jammu District, is attempting to cover up the hit-and-run case.
The demonstrators also accused the police of failing to conduct a medical examination of the accused, alleging that he was driving under the influence of alcohol at the time of the accident.
Responding to the allegations, SHO Arnia, Rouf Khan, explained that the medical examination was not conducted due to confusion on the day of the accident, as the accused had been admitted to the same hospital as the injured.
He claimed that the accused managed to flee before the police could act but assured that an arrest would be made soon.
By the evening, SDPO RS Pura, Nikhil Gogna, also arrived at the protest site and assured the demonstrators that the accused would be dealt with according to the law.
As of the last report, the protesters were still on the road, awaiting further action from the authorities.
