DC Jammu delivers guest lecture at IIMC Jammu

JAMMU, Aug 21: The Indian Institute of Mass Communication (IIMC) Jammu organized a guest lecture on “Local Administration and Role of Media,” delivered by District Magistrate Jammu, Sachin Kumar Vaishya.
The DM Jammu provided an insightful overview of the structure of Government administration, emphasizing the crucial role of local administration in effective policy implementation.
Vaishya discussed innovative approaches to addressing social challenges at the grassroots level, highlighting Jammu administration’s initiative to enrol child beggars in Government schools for elementary education.
He stressed the media’s role in accurately portraying the work of Government officers, noting that balanced and fair reporting is essential.
“Constructive criticism from the media can significantly contribute to nation-building,” he remarked.
During the interactive session, Vaishya answered students’ questions on media transparency, unbiased reporting, public awareness, and the upcoming Jammu and Kashmir elections.
He underscored the importance of media in ensuring informed public discourse.
The event, held at the IIMC Jammu campus, was attended by different faculty members, including Dr Dilip Kumar, Regional Director of IIMC Jammu, Vivek Pathak (IIS), OSD (Admin) and Integrated Financial Advisor, IIMC Jammu, Dr Vinit Utpal, Assistant Professor (Digital Media), Dr Ravia Gupta, Assistant Professor (English Journalism), and others.
Dr Dilip Kumar, in his vote of thanks, highlighted the significance of integrating social development with public administration to achieve better outcomes at the grassroots level.
The event also saw the release of four in-house magazines designed by IIMC students-Spectrum, Hashtag, Darpan, and Kaleido.
As a token of appreciation, Sachin Vaishya was presented with “Communicator,” IIMC’s in-house journal.
