JAMMU, Apr 11: Governor, N.N. Vohra, Chancellor of the Central University, Jammu, stressed the vital importance of continuously upgrading the standards of teaching and research in the universities and reiterated the State Government’s responsibility to frame practical policies for establishing effective academic linkages in the functioning of High and Higher Secondary Schools, Colleges and Universities.
He also pointed to the need for all required measures being implemented to increase the Gross Enrolment Ratio and, side by side, to reduce the drop out ratio, especially of the students belonging to the economically weaker sections living in the remote areas of the State. He said this while chairing the second meeting of the Court of the Central University of Jammu, at Raj Bhavan, today.
While presenting an overview of the activities of the Central University of Jammu, Dr. Sudhir Bloeria, Vice Chancellor, informed the Court that the process of land acquisition at village Bagla, in Samba district, had been almost completed and, till date, out of the allotted approximately 4881 kanals of land, 4746 kanals were in the possession of the University. He presented details about the work for the construction of the Ist Phase of the Campus which was proceeding satisfactorily. The Chancellor urged the VC to consider fencing the University land and to accord high priority to the construction of Girl’s Hostels in the Campus.
The Court took note of the progress reported by the Vice Chancellor in regard to the filling up of the faculty positions and complimented the VC for the processes initiated by him for the recruitment of teaching and non teaching positions at the University. The VC informed that the process of commencing admissions to the Science stream subjects would commence when the process for setting up of laboratories and related infrastructure is about to be completed.
The Vice Chancellor informed the Court that the first batch of Post Graduate students in the disciplines of English, Comparative Literature, Economics, Appl-ied Mathem-atics and MEd. had passed out last year. He also apprised the Court about the initiative taken to commence Faculty Lecture Series at which Assistant Professors from all departments make presentations to the entire faculty on the work being done by them and this is followed by an interactive session.
The Court approved the Budget Estimates for the year 2014-15 and the Revised Estimates for the year 2013-14 of the University.
