First-ever National Space Day widely celebrated in J&K

JAMMU/SRINAGAR, Aug 23: Celebrating the Chandrayaan-3 mission’s successful Moon landing anniversary, India commemorated its first National Space Day, in Jammu and Kashmir today.
The day was widely celebrated by various educational institutions in Jammu.
The Central University of Jammu commemorated National Space Day today with a grand celebration. The event was held under the esteemed patronage of Prof. Sanjeev Jain, Vice Chancellor, and the co-patronship of Prof. Vinay Kumar, Head and Dean of the School of Basic and Applied Sciences (SBAS).
Prof. Vinay Kumar emphasized the significance of National Space Day and highlighted the remarkable achievements of the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO), particularly the successful soft landing of Chandrayaan-3 on the lunar South Pole.
The University of Jammu commemorated India’s maiden National Space Day with a one-day workshop.
Prof. Umesh Rai, Vice Chancellor, University of Jammu presided over the event. In his presidential address, Prof. Umesh Rai underscored the significance of National Space Day as a moment of immense pride for every Indian.
Government Degree College (GDC) Vijaypur marked India’s inaugural National Space Day today.
Dr. VandanaVerma, Principal of GDC Vijaypur, highlighted the significance of National Space Day in recognizing and celebrating India’s contributions to space science.
In honor of India’s maiden National Space Day-2024, Govt. Degree College, Kathua organized an educational quiz competition. The principal of the college, Prof. Seema Mir encouraged the students to participate in such type of activities which increase their curiosity in scientific pursuits and are of great importance for their future.
GDC Kunjwani celebrated National Space Day to commemorate the day. On this occasion, Science and Innovation Club of the College organized an Essay writing competition on the theme “Touching Lives while touching the moon: India’s Space Saga”.
Dogra Degree College, Bari Brahmana, Samba celebrated the day by organizing an enlightening seminar..
Dr. Bela Thakur, Principal of the College, expressed enthusiasm about the event and said, “National Space Day is a wonderful occasion to reflect on the extraordinary achievements in space exploration and their tangible benefits on Earth. This seminar will not only educate and inspire but also underscore the significant ways in which space research touches our lives every day.”
The day was also celebrated at Govt. HSS Dablehar here today. On the occasion, events like video screening related to charnadrayan-3, intercourse quiz competition, lectures by students and teachers were organized.
Baba Ghulam Shah Badshah University (BGSBU) celebrated National Space Day with a series of engaging events and activities.
On the occasion, Vice Chancellor, Prof. Akbar Masood extended greetings on maiden National Space Day. He mentioned that this day last year India achieved a historical milestone when Chandrayaan – 3 made a soft landing on the moon. School of Engineering and Technology organised a workshop on the theme Space Ideathon.
The National Institute of Technology (NIT) celebrated National Space Day to commemorate India’s Moon mission Chandrayaan-3.
In his key message, Director NIT Srinagar, Prof. A Ravinder Nath said, “On this National Space Day, let us celebrate the remarkable achievements in space exploration and the unwavering commitment of scientists and engineers who push the boundaries of our understanding. Their work inspires future generations to dream big and inspire us.”
Department of Physics Govt. Degree College, Drass in collaboration with NASI Jammu Chapter, organized a special program today to commemorate National Space Day.
The keynote lecture was delivered by Rizwan Ali, Assistant Professor of Physics. He discussed in detail the milestones achieved through missions such as Chandrayaan, Mangalyaan, and the upcoming Gaganyaan project.
Islamic University of Science & Technology (IUST) commemorated India’s first National Space Day by organizing a one-day workshop on “Space Exploration and Its Role in Shaping Sustainable Development.”
The keynote address was delivered by Humayun Rashid, Former Scientist ‘F’ at Directorate of Ecology, Environment, and Remote Sensing, J&K. He discussed the evolution of space technology in the region and its applications across various sectors.
The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Jammu hosted a successful National Space Day event, here today.
The keynote address was delivered by Dr. S. Pandian, the former Director of the Satish Dhawan Space Centre (SDSC-SHAR), ISRO. He shared his extensive knowledge on India’s space missions, providing the audience with a deep understanding of the challenges and achievements that have positioned India as a leader in global space exploration.
The Department of Physics in collaboration with the Department of Students Welfare (DSW), Central University of Kashmir (CUK) celebrated the day.
In his keynote address, Dean, School of Physical and Chemical Sciences, Prof. Muhammad Yusuf spoke about the importance of Space research and said, “When we touched the moon, we touched life.”
He said “with development of space research our focus is to use Science for the benefit of life and the mutual benefit of living beings.”
