FIR lodged against Azam in Ghaziabad over his Kargil remark

LUCKNOW: On the directives of the Election Commission (EC),Ghaziabad district authorities today lodged a FIR against Uttar Pradesh Minority Welfare minister Mohammad Azam Khan. The FIR was registered a day after EC banned him from holding any public meetings or road shows in UP over his controversial statment on Kargil war.
Addressing an election rally in Ghaziabad for party candidate Nahid Hasan on April 8, Azam had said the Kargil win was due to Muslim soldiers.
He was attacked by Congress and Bharatiya Janata Party alike who slammed the leader for communalising the poll. Both parties also complained to the poll panel over the issue. Yesterday , the EC banned Khan as well as BJP’s Amit Shah from holding any public meetings or road shows in UP. The EC also accused the Akhilesh Yadav government of ‘soft-pedalling’ in taking action against Khan who is a Cabinet minister in it. The state government was also asked to lodge a first information report against the two leaders for making hate speeches during the election campaign. FIR was already registered against BJP leader Amit Shah in Shamli and Bijnore districts over his controversial statements. (AGENCIES)
