Turmeric, Jeera weakens on subdued demand

NEW DELHI, Apr 12:  Turmeric and jeera prices fell up to Rs 200 per quintal in the national capital today owing to subdued demand from retailers and stockists amid adequate stocks.

Weakening trend in futures market also put pressure on the select spice prices.

Turmeric (superior quality) fell by Rs 200 to Rs 7,400- 11,500 per quintal.

Jeera common and best quality also declined by Rs 100 each to conclude at Rs 10,400-10,600 and Rs 12,800-13,300 per quintal, respectively.

Marketmen said subdued demand from retailers and stockists against adequate stocks, mainly pulled down turmeric and jeera prices on the wholesale kirana market here.

Following were today’s quotations per quintal:

Ajwain 12,500-18,500, black pepper (per kg) 595-725, betel-nut (kg) 180-200, cardamom brown-Jhundiwali (kg) 1,300-1,330 and cardamom brown-Kanchicut (kg) 1,400-1,500.

Cardamom small (kg): Chitridar 620-680, cardamom (colour robin) 630-640, cardamom bold 650-670, cardamom extra (bold) 840-870 and cloves (kg) 870-970. (PTI)
