Burglary cases solved in Sopore; 3 arrested

Srinagar, Aug 24: Police in north Kashmir’s Sopore today solved two burglary cases, arresting three accused and recovering stolen property worth over Rs 7 lakhs from their possession.
In a statement issued here, authorities said that on July 27 this year, Sopore Police Station received a written complaint from Gulshana Begum, wife of Aashiq Hussain, resident of Kralteng, Sopore, stating that she had gone to her son’s nearby home and after returning to her house, “she found that jewellery had been stolen.”
According to police, a case was registered under FIR No. 176/2024 under sections 331(3) and 305 of the IPC, and an investigation was initiated at Sopore Police Station.
On the directions of SP Sopore, Divya D, an investigation team led by SHO Sopore and other officials, under the supervision of SDPO Sopore, was formed.
“During investigation, the team, with strenuous efforts, apprehended an accused identified as Saqib Lateef Sofi, son of Abdul Lateef Sofi, resident of Sempora, Sopore. During questioning, he confessed his involvement in the crime, police said.
Further investigation revealed the involvement of two more individuals, Aabid Ahmad Lone, son of Ghulam Mohiudin Lone, resident of Zaloora, Sopore, and Shakoor Ahmad Zargar, son of Mohammad Shafi Zargar, resident of Nigeen Bagh, Sopore, and owner of S S Jewellers in Iqbal Market, Sopore.
“All the accused have been arrested. From their possession, stolen property, including one kitty set, nine gold rings, one big jhumka, one small jhumka, five gold coins, and two earrings, valued at a total of Rs 6,10,000, were recovered,” police said.
Additionally, cash amounting to Rs 1,30,000 was recovered from the possession of Saqib Ahmad Sofi, involved in case FIR No. 200/2024, related to a burglary that took place at Iqbal Nagar, Sopore, on August 14, 2024.
