Ukraine lobbying US for permission to hit Russian heartland with storm shadows

KYIV, Aug 25 : Ukraine wants to launch a “demonstration attack” against targets near Moscow or St. Petersburg using UK-supplied Storm Shadow cruise missiles to “prompt a reassessment in the Kremlin,” although the United States has not supported the plan so far, The Guardian reported on Sunday, citing senior officials in Kiev.

Ukraine has been lobbying the high-risk strategy for months in the hope that it could persuade Russia to negotiate an end to the special military operation by showing that its capital could be vulnerable to direct strikes, the newspaper reported.
The Times reported last week that UK ministers were asking allies to allow Ukraine to use UK-French Storm Shadows to strike deep inside Russia.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said in July that the new British government had allowed the Ukrainian military to fire Storm Shadows inside Russia. The Telegraph reported that the UK Ministry of Defense denied that claim. (UNI)
