JAMMU, Aug 25: During India’s 78th Independence Day celebrations in the United Kingdom, the Voice of Dogras took center stage, representing the rich and diverse culture of Jammu and Kashmir.
The event, attended by the Indian Diaspora and supported by the High Commission of India in the UK, featured various community organizations from across India.
The J&K cultural exhibit, organized by the Voice of Dogras in collaboration with the Kashmiri Pandit Association, showcased traditional attire such as the Dogri suthan-kurta and Kashmiri pheran, along with regional crafts like Basohli paintings, Gujjar jewellery and Pashmina shawls.
A photo exhibit highlighted iconic landmarks including Vaishno Devi, Shiv Khori, and the world’s highest rail bridge, with contributions from local photographers and support from District Commissioner Reasi, Vishesh Mahajan.
Om Sharma, hailing from R S Pura, brought a taste of Jammu to the event by serving the region’s special Rajma to attendees in the food marquee.
Manu Khajuria, founder director of Voice of Dogras, expressed pride in representing J&K at the event, noting the organization’s ongoing efforts since 2015 to build a positive and accurate narrative about the region, with a special focus on Jammu.
Anirudh Sawhney, a team member and trainee solicitor in London, emphasized the significance of showcasing the cultural diversity of J&K, advocating for a multicultural region where all voices are heard.
The Voice of Dogras’ participation in the UK celebrations highlights the organization’s commitment to promoting the cultural heritage of J&K on an international stage.
